Job Title: Consulting Engineer
Reporting To: Managing Director (initially)
Pay Band: £60-70k package depending on experience
Location: Bracknell, Berkshire
As a result of significant growth and increasing customer demand Neutral Services requires an engineer to consult on various complex site-based environmental assessments and their subsequent projects.
Job Summary
Reporting initially to the Managing Director, the post of Consulting Engineer has been created to work as part of a team focused on the delivery of carbon action plans, projects and programmes that reduce the carbon footprint of property, transport and operations utilised as part of the supply chain.
The successful candidate will analyze and design energy systems and engineering solutions for warehousing infrastructure within supply chain operations, with an aim towards optimizing energy efficiencies in complex physical environments. The candidate will develop carbon and energy reduction solutions, emphasizing improved operating and cost conditions, emerging technologies investment analysis and delivery of implementation plans.
The role will require excellent investigative, analytical and report writing skills. Technical knowledge of energy efficiency and climate policy is required.
Key Responsibilities
Solution Definition
Undertake engineering services in a consulting environment to define solutions, and their related projects, that reduce Carbon Footprint and operating costs for clients
o Undertake sustainability and modeling of building operations and physics, to include heating, cooling, stratification and refrigeration
o Reviews of energy consumption, consumption factors, power sources, and alternatives for optimization
o Technical reviews of supplier contributions;
o Direct site analysis, engineering reviews & delivery of action/remediation solutions;
o Contribution to planning and scoping of projects;
o Identification of issues, risks, constraints and dependencies;
o Undertake report writing, feasibility studies and presentation preparation describing site findings, recommendations and cost projections;
o Designing and specifying low energy building services systems;
o Present solutions as part of a team and provide credible, logical and confident responses to questions.
Project Management
Run and manage small projects where a dedicated project manager is not required;
Manage all available internal resources to ensure that revenue and customer expectations are met;
Build and develop positive relationships with clients, channels to market and specialist consultants and supplier Project Managers
Ensure client-facing communication is managed effectively;
Communicate good practice.
Proposition Development
Work closely with the proposition development team to provide input to the Neutral Services propositions and brand development activities;
Proactively establish new business opportunities and work with the account team to develop specific propositions.
Carbon Reduction Knowledge
Maintain a credible level of understanding and appreciation of carbon reduction techniques, technologies and solutions;
Maintain and extend knowledge of UK and global sustainability agenda, strategy and policies;
Personal Qualities and Experience
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a successful track record in the areas outlined in this job description and also demonstrate a capability and willingness to develop further in the role. Specifically the successful candidate will need to demonstrate:
A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in mechanical, structural or civil engineering, and ideally be a chartered engineer;
Minimum of 6 years proven, full-time experience in plant management, power generation, large industrial, manufacturing, building services design, transport operations or warehousing operations, or other engineering operations, with responsibility for a range of engineering solutions;
Strong interest in physical plant operations, buildings, environmental issues, sustainability and renewable energy with excellent knowledge and experience of UK and global sustainability agenda, strategy and policies;
Experience of a mix of technologies (e.g. ground source heat, solar energy, micro-macro wind turbine, lighting solutions, refrigeration systems, etc.)
Understanding of renewable energy system types, costs, installation & maintenance factors;
A proven background in building services management within supply chain operations with a focus on building infrastructure;
Excellent report writing, MS Project presentation skills;
Experience of working at all levels with a wide range of individuals from all backgrounds and organisations;
Ability to quickly generate rapport with clients;
A strong team player combined with a well defined ability to prioritise;
An ability to think and act beyond the immediate priorities;
Knowledge of the carbon issue;
Specific experience with assessing and implementing options for carbon reduction would be considered advantageous.
