What options does wind power offer?
Electricity prices continue to rise making wind more attractive and improvements in control software should lead to increased efficiencies. Ever bigger turbines (e.g. 5 MW) are being produced with increased efficiency and output. Small scale wind turbines are economically less attractive than larger turbines which can have economic payback times of well below 10 years. Due to the attractiveness of wind power, there is already a supply shortage and wind turbine orders exceed supply. Alternative designs are being developed that are less obtrusive and better able to generate power from disturbed/turbulent airflow in more built up areas, e.g. Quiet Revolution. But these mostly small scale turbines are not the most suitable solution for warehouses as typical warehouses have high electricity demands and are usually located in industrial non-residential areas. This makes on-site wind power generation from a large turbine attractive because there is enough space to put up a turbine and any excess electricity can be sold to the grid.
