The challenge
Consumer demand has created supply chains which span the globe - the ever increasing requirement for products and goods to be produced in lower cost economies and then sold into other markets has established logistics networks which reach every corner of the Earth. The supply chain and logistics industry has risen to the demand challenge, but in so doing has created a significant component of the global carbon footprint.
And unless consumer demands rapidly change, the need for transportation and warehousing is expected to continue to grow - with all of the associated carbon footprints. However, even in such a traditionally low margin industry there are savings to be made - both carbon savings and financial savings. Some of our clinets regard this as good business practice, some believe that it will differentiate them in a competitive market.
There are some easy solutions and many more which are very complex. This section explores some of these issues, and draws upon The Neutral Group's experience working with real clients who are working hard to reduce their emissions.
